Who is the Altruistic American?

Let us introduce ourselves

The Altruistic American is a 501c3 organization that was founded by Chris Battenberg and Janelle Battenberg in February of 2021. Chris Battenberg is a Co-Founder and the Executive Director of The Altruistic American. Chris has been a member of the Truckee Meadows community for over 30 years. Janelle Battenberg, is also a Co-founder, The Assistant Director and Secretary for The Altruistic American, T.A.A. couldn't be in better hands. All that said lets get into why Janelle and Chris decided to take action. With Janelle and Chris growing up and now raising their 4 children in the Truckee Meadows they have been witness to an overwhelming need for help and compassion in Northern Nevada's various communities and venues. Due to the lack of access to affordable mental health services or mental health resources, the crisis has to come to a head and something needs to be done to alleviate the crisis. We want to seal the cracks in our communities that so many people seem to slip though. We know we can't solve this alone and it wont be easy but even if we help just one person, we will be successful in our mission. This mission is only possible with the help of amazing members from our community, like you! Please volunteer or donate today.

Richard Sloane is our Vice President. He is a dedicated and motivated individual with unparalleled skill in his line of work. He has lived in northern Nevada his entire life and is constantly doing everything he can to better our communities, he truly is a gift to this organization

Social Media and Marketing Specialist

We are seeking a creative, forward-thinking, and organized social media volunteer to join our growing Nonprofit. The duties in this position include but are not limited to interacting with the virtual communities and network users to promote our Nonprofit and provide customer care. You must be able to create consistent, meaningful content on all social media platforms as well as act quickly and gracefully to resolve any customer complaints or criticisms posted on social media. The Kin Folk Dance is a parent/relative child dance. Come dance the night away with your loved ones while supporting a great cause. This event brings dancing and mental health together in a beautiful ballet. Be sure to swing by in 2023 to see what we have in store.

The Mental for Metal music festival is a work in progress and will one day be our biggest event. The music festival will incorporate mental health and music to create a new environment to help battle the stigma behind ill mental health and seeking treatment.

Annual Gala

Our annual Gala is our big black tie event. We have a social hour, silent auction, guest speakers, a nice dinner and of course the presentation of our E&L Scholarship which will support a local college student or students in our community. You don't want to miss this evening of entertainment and class while we celebrate the next generation of mental health professional(s)!
