The Altruistic American's #NOSTIGMA campaign is our grass roots effort to help educate the public and bring awareness to the mental health crisis. The goal of the program is to help end the stigma behind ill mental health and seeking treatment for it. We have a go-to analogy that we use in regard to the stigma behind ill mental health and seeking treatment for it. When a neighbor gets a cold we offer them well wishes and chicken noodle soup and normally follow it up with something along the lines of "let me know if there is anything I can do for you". Yet, when someone says they are suffering from a form of mental illness, folks tend to distance themselves or outright cut contact all together. This has to end, we should treat our neighbors, friends, and family with the same compassion and concern that we do when they are suffering from any other illness.
The national suicide hotline has changed to 988 in an effort to make seeking help in a crisis situation much easier. Dial 988 the same way you would dial 911 in a mental health crisis situation.
